About the Observatory

All You Need to Know About the Observatory

By Jade Lewis

The Texas State Observatory lies on campus on the fourth floor of the Supple Science building. As mentioned previously, the observatory is open Wednesday nights from 8-10 pm for free star gazing. It is a non-profit organization solely run by Texas State students. The observatory houses a 16-inch telescope making our galaxies visible from both near and far.

When visiting the Texas State Observatory on Texas State's campus, visitors will take the elevators in Supple Science building to the fourth floor, and follow the signs for guidance. Complying with hours, doors to the observatory do lock at 9 PM, so visitors would have to make sure to arrive before time.

To make appointments for group visits, email Dr. Doescher at rd10@txstate.edu to set up the necessary accommodations.

Disclaimer: Although the Texas State Observatory is for public viewing every Wednesday, if the sky is cloudy/overcast/stormy, the observatory will NOT be open due to restricting weather.
